Are you looking for something new this winter to stay connected to people? This pandemic has required us to remain isolated from our brothers and sisters in faith. This year, Pope Francis has encouraged us to accept the challenge called "Connected in Christ" by joining a small group here at St. Patrick.
This is a great way to connect with other parish members, whether it be remotely, socially distanced at the parish or at a parishioner's home. Please contact Lisa Powaser at lpowaser@stpwl.org for more information on offerings and dates.
A small group is a gathering of six to ten people who meet reguarly to connect with others and grow in faith together. Groups generally have a leader who facilitates conversation and ensures that the group runs smoothly. Small groups can be composed of a uniform demographic such as all men, all women, couples, families, youth, etc. or they can be a mix of men and women in different age groups and stages in life. Generally, members of a small group are in similar stages in their faith journey since those who are new to the faith have different goals and different types of conversation than those who are committed disciples.
Prayer Groups: The purpose of a prayer group is to come together to pray. Prayer groups often intercede for others (i.e., children, family, the parish, particular intentions, etc.) and pray for each other when they meet.
Faith Sharing and Discipleship Groups: The purpose of these groups is to grow in virtue and the habits of discipleship. Members share life's joys and struggles with one another and encourage each other in upholding Gosple values. Group meetings include prayer and discussion of materials that explore Christian living.
Study Groups: The purpose of this group is to grow in knowlege in a particular aspect of the faith. Groups may study Sacred Scripture, teachings of the faith, Church documents, or other writings that explore the Catholic faith.
It is important to connect with others to pray and study God's Word and each of us is called to a unique relationship with God during different stages in our lives. Perhaps you have a specific book in the Bible you have been wanting to study with other, are interested in forming a group with those in similar life stages (i.e., a Mommy and Baby Bible Group), or just want to start a group that works with your schedule and level of social distancing comfort. We invite you to bring your ideas to us and we will do what we can to help get your group going. Please contact Lisa Powaser at lpowaser@stpwl.org if you would like to learn more about how you can facilitate a small group.
